Abstract

1,199,021. Filtering air; cleaning liquids. JAMES HOWARTH & CO. Ltd. 15 Aug., 1968 [16 Sept., 1967], No. 42294/67. Headings BIT and B1D. Polluted air flowing in a duct passes through a pair of filter elements A, A<SP>1</SP> of foamed plastics supported by frames inclined at 45‹ to the duct, a perforated pipe b serving to spray element A with washing liquid. As described, filter element A<SP>1</SP> serves to extract moisture. Washing liquid, which contains detergent, trickles into tank C<SP>1</SP> and thence into a cleaning apparatus comprising a settling tank C<SP>2</SP> and a weir C<SP>3</SP>, to be recirculated by a pump b. A timer C<SP>7</SP> causes periodic discharge of waste products. A maske-up water supply C<SP>5</SP>, including a detergent supply C<SP>6</SP>, is controlled by a float C<SP>4</SP> These may be an additional filter C<SP>8</SP> (not detailed); and a gauze pre-filter (not shown) in the air duct.
