Abstract

777,198. Air filters. FILTERWERK MANN & HUMMEL GES. Sept. 10, 1955, No. 25943/55. Class 8(2) In an air filter of the oil-bath type comprising an axial dirt-laden air inlet tube 3 surrounded by a filter insert 2 and terminating above a baffle plate 27 spaced above the sump 5 which is detachably connected to the filter casing 1 having a clean air outlet 4<SP>1</SP> in a hood portion 4, the baffle plate is formed by a central imperforate part 27 of a bowl the side 9 of which encloses the lower part of the filter insert and the marginal part of the base of which has a ring of apertures 28 providing the only communication between the sump and the space above the bowl. As shown the filter insert comprises separate portions 2, 2<SP>1</SP> held between screens 7, 8, 11 and 12; the lower portion 2<SP>1</SP> being removable with the bowl after releasing clips 6 and removing the sump 5. Apertures 20 in a flange 13 housing an outer sealing ring 14 allow access of a tool for loosening the inserts 2<SP>1</SP> prior to removal thereof. An inner sealing ring 18 is pressed outwardly by a tapered portion 19 adjacent dimples 24 at the lower end of the tube 3.
