Abstract

600,689. Air cleaners. HOUDAILLE-HERSHEY CORPORATION. Oct. 10, 1945, No. 26506. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1942. [Class 8 (ii)] An air cleaner comprises a casing 1 in which a filter 13 is retained by a partition 6, which defines with the casing an air path 16 leading downwardly to a sump 21, and the closed top 7 of the partition 6 forms with the casing top 4 a chamber 33 of capacity equal to the sump and serving to retain sump liquid in the event of inversion of the cleaner ; the casing has an inlet opening 5 at one side below the chamber 33. The casing 1 is polygonal and the partition 6 cylindrical, thereby making the path 16 of varying width. A Z-shaped bracket 17 serves to distribute evenly the incoming air laterally. An annular baffle 25 provides a space 26 through which sump liquid is aspirated. The filter comprises wavy wire, cactus fibre or cattle-tail hair.
