Abstract

1,120,245. Ventilators. LUDWIG BAUMANN K.G. 6 Aug., 1965 [15 Feb., 1965], No. 33702/65. Heading F4V. [Also in Division F1] A ventilating fan for mounting in a wall or window comprises an inner set of impeller blades 14 the tips of which are connected to a cylinder 15 having a further set of blades 16 mounted on its outer surface, the arrangement being such that the sets of blades drive the air in opposite directions. Blades 16 rotate in an annular chamber 25 having inlet and outlet openings 19, 20 and a radially inwardly projecting baffle 24 which causes air to flow in a U-shaped path through the chamber. The casing 26 defining chamber 25 is provided with flared portions 10 which, together with cylinder 15, define a duct for the passage of the inner air flow. A pivoted hood 28 incorporating a filter 29 is provided on the outer side of the fan so that with the hood in its open position air is extracted from the room by the inner blades and fresh air supplied to the room by blades 16, while when the hood is closed, as shown, air from the room is passed through the filter by blades 14 and returned to the room by blades 16. Adjustable slides 32 are provided for openings 19, 20. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the fan has an iris diaphragm which in its retracted position is accommodated within baffle 24 and is movable into a slot extending through blades 16, cylinder 15 and blades 14 to out off both air flows. Chamber 25 may be provided with heating elements and replaceable de-odourizing and disinfecting means.
