482,824. Exhaust and like silencers. HOOVER HOLDING CO., Ltd. (Hoover Co.) Oct. 5, 1936, No. 26974. Addition to 455,855. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A sound muffler for suction cleaners, in the form of a rigid tubular member lined with sound-deadening material as claimed in the parent Specification, is connected to the outlet from the fan by sound-insulating means. The Figure shows a muffler composed of a metal tube E<1> lined with sound-deadening material E<2>, such as sponge rubber, and connected to a flange F<2> on the clamping-ring F of the dust bag by a fabric tube G, which is clamped at one end to the ring F by the reinforcement at the mouth of the dust bag D, and at the other end by a binding-wire G'. The lining E<2> is compressed within a second flange F<3> on the ring F. The outer end of the muffler is connected by a sling to the wall of the dust bag, which at this point is provided with a loop connection to a hook on the handle of the cleaner.
