In a motor fan suction cleaner of the canister type as claimed in the parent Specification and wherein the fan exhaust is restricted to provide a superatmospheric pressure which is communicated e.g., through a blower socket 23, Fig. 1, to a pressure chamber 27 bounded by the carpet and by the cleaner casing, above so as to provide cleaner supporting cushion of air, the cleaner includes a carpet contacting rim 26 beneath which escape of air from the chamber 27 is restricted, and the connecting socket 23 has a readily removable sleeve 30 to permit relatively free escape of air to atmosphere as shown in Fig. 2, and so at least partly eliminates the cushioning effect of the chamber 27. The detachable sleeve 30 is of rubber and is seated in an. aperture 32 of a flat plate 25 of the cleaner base 21 and in a gap 34 between said base 21 and a lower portion 12 of the cleaner casing. Removal of said sleeve is effected after swinging the cleaner casing about a hinge 20 whereupon a blowing hose may be connected to the socket 23. The floor contacting surface of the rim 26 comprises spaced ribs 29.
