Abstract

855,743. Turbines. PRECO Inc. Sept. 12, 1958, No. 29345/58. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] . The scroll-formed air inlet duct 82, Fig. 3, of a suction-operated turbine 50 located within a suction cleaner nozzle and serving to rotate a floor cleaning brush 26 through a belt 58, is of flexible material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, with the outlet end 84 so supported as to allow it to be deflected away from the turbine wheel on impact with relatively large solid objects, e.g. buttons, drawn through the suction inlet 42 of the nozzle whereby said objects are prevented from passing through the turbine wheel. The scroll 82 is of channel-section and its terminal end 82c carries a flange 84 integral with one of the side flanges 82b of the scroll and is normally seated on a fixed ring 86 and from which it is sprung on impact of said objects against the interior of the scroll web 82e. The turbine wheel-shaft bearing 54, Fig. 4a, comprising a housing 57, an oil wick 61 and a bushing 59 is located wholly within the turbine chamber 32 which is separated by a partition 30a from a belt chamber 34 into which the turbine shaft projects. A disc 67 of slightly greater diameter than the bearing housing 57 provides an annular leakage space 67a whereby dust-laden air from chamber 34 is directed past the bearing.
