In the embodiment disclosed there are four of these recesses distributed equi-distantly around the ring. lLocated within each recess 22 is a wedge-shaped foot or supporting member 23 preferably made of rigid electrical insulating material, such as bakelite or the like. Members 23 are provided with recesses 24 into which pins 25 extend from one side of the member. Thesepins may be cast in the members 23, or otherwise suitably secured thereto. Pins 25 serve to support springs 23 having spiralportions 21 of increasing radius and straight portions 28. Straightportions 28 are secured by means of vbolts 29 to the frame of an electric motor 30. Motor 30 is thus supported resiliently through springs 26 by supporting members 23, the springs comprising resilient support members for the motor.
- Motor 30 is provided with an armature shaft 3| upon which is mounted one or more fan rotors 32 and33. Rotor 33 is enclosed within an inner housing 34 comprising a cylindrical portion 35 and an end wall portion 36. Wall portion 36 is provided with a central aperture 36a. The other end of Acylindrical Vportion 35 is formed with an outwardly extending radial flange 31 which overlaps A shoulder 2I on ring I9 and is clamped between shoulder 2| and supporting members 23 (Fig. 5) when the latter are clamped in position, as will be explainedlater. A packing ring 38 may be located between shoulder l2| and iiange 31 in order to provide a substantially air-tight joint. y

An end member 45 is secured to ring I3 by means of a plurality of stud bolts 46. Member 45 is formed with an outwardly extending ange 41 which is provided with apertures to receive bolts 46. Flange 41 extends radially inwardlyA beyond ring I9 so as to contact supporting members E23, as clearly appears in Figs. 4 and 5. Thus,
when bolts 46 are tightened, flange 41 is drawnv against members 23 andA forces them against ilange 31 on fan housing 34, which in turn is piressed against packing fing 38 which abuts ,against lshoulder 2|. In this manner bolts 4B serve to Ahold in place the end member 45, supporting members 23 and fan housing 34, the supporting members and the fan housing being clamped between the end member and barrel I0. Heretofore, separate fastening means have been required for each of these three members.
End member 45 is formed with a centrally threaded aperture 48 having threads similar to those in opening I4 so as to be able to receive coupling I when it is desired to use the device as a blower. Inclined louvers 43 are located ad; jacent to openings 48 and serve to direct air upwardly.
The unit is supported by means of a pair of runners 50 secured to rings II and I9. A handle 5I is provided for carrying the unit. A combined attachment plug and switch 52 serves forvthe supply and control, respectively, of electricity to the motor. A sealing ring 53 of soft rubber or other Asuitable material may be carried by motor 30 to prevent the passage of air betweenl the motor and the casing, thus causing all of the air to ilow through the motor in order to most elciently cool the latter.
The operation of the device is as follows:
Rotation of fan rotors 32 and 33 by motor 3,0 cause a current of air to be drawn in through nozzle I1, hollow handle I8, hose I8, coupling I5 and opening I4 into dustbag 42. vIf the nozzle I1 is passed over a dusty surface, dust isdrawn -in with this air and is deposited within the dust the springs 25 and thus prevented from reaching N the casing. In the event that any of the electric wires of `the motor becomes grounded on the motor frame, current is prevented from reaching the casing because of the fact that supporting members 23 are made of electrical insulating material.-
In the modication shown in Figs. 7 and 8, supporting members 23 are replaced by a complete ring 60. Ring 60 iits closely within ring I9 which is formed with an annular recess 6I in place of the wedge-shaped recesses 22. Flange 41 on end member 45 bears against ring 30 and forces it against ilange 31 on fan housing 34. Flange 31 is thus forced against packing ring 33 which abuts against shoulder 2l on ring I9. A dowel pin 62 is provided between rings I3 and 33 in order to prevent relative rotation of theA two rings. I
Tightening of bolts 48 serves to secure end member 45, supporting ring 60 and fan housing 34 in place, the bolts thus performing the functions heretofore performed by Ythree separate fas.
While I have shown two morey or less specic embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that modifications thereof fall within its scope which is to be limited only by the appended claims, viewed in the light of the prior art.
What I claim is:
1. In a suction cleaner, a casing, an end member for said casing, and means for supporting an lelement in said casing ina manner to permit ready removal of the same by detachment of said end member, said last mentioned means including supports spaced about the element to be supported, and means on said casing cooperating with said supports for maintaining said supports in a denite position, said end member constituting means for maintainnig the parts in assembled relation.
2. In a suction cleaner, a casing, an end member an insulating ring between said end member and saidI casing and serving to connect said casing and end member. but maintaining them in spaced relation, supporting means in said ring,
said supporting means and ring being provided with complementary portions whereby the parts are relatively fixed when the parts are assembled permitting ready removal of the supporting means when the end member is removed, said end member constituting means for maintaining the parts in assembled relation.
. 3. A suction cleaner including a casing, a ring forming an extension of said casing, aY supporting element slidably receivable within said ring, an element to be supported, connecting means between said supporting element and said ele. ment to be supported, an end member for closing the end of the casing, and means for clamping said end member to said ring, said end member being constructed also to clamp said supporting element inplace in said ring.
4. A suction cleaner comprising a casing. a ring forming n an extension of said casing, a motor support slidably mounted within said ring, a motor, resilient means connecting said motor support and the motor whereby vibrations of the motor are absorbed and prevented from reachi ing the casing, an end member for closing the end of the casing, and means for clamping said end member to said ring, said end member being constructed also to clamp said motor support in said ring.
5. A suction cleaner including a casing, a ring forming an extension of said casing, said ring having a plurality of slots extending axially thereof, blocks inserted in said slots for supporting a motor, an end member for closing the end of said casing, and means for clamping said' end member to said ring, said end member be ing constructed also to clamp said motor sup porting'blocks vin place.
6. In a suction cleaner, a casing including a barrel portion and a closure member for one end of said barrel portion, said barrel portion having internal recesses extending inwardly from one end of the same, motor supporting blocks in said recesses. and means for securing said closure member to said barel portion against the end of said supporting blocks and clampingly securing said blocks in said recesses.
'7. A vacuum cleaner including a casing having 70 a ring forming an extension of said casing. said ring having a plurality of slots extending inwardly thereof, blocks of electrical insulating material inserted in said slots i'or` supporting a motor insulated with respect to the casing. an

8. In a suction cleaner a. casing, motor supporting means attached to said casing and comprising a ring having an inwardly directed flange, said ring being provided with recesses on its interior, supporting members in said recesses and.
abutting said ange, and a cover member for said motor connected to said ring on the side opposite said ange and clamping the supports in place.
9.- In a suction cleaner a casing, a motor, rrieans for supporting vsaid motor in said casing comm prising supporting elements between said motor and casing spaced transversely of the casing, and an end member for one end oi the casing, the construction and amusement being auch that the supports are positively clamped between the casing and the end member and arey prevented -1 from moving axially of the casing, said casing being provided with means for preventing rota tion of the supports about the axis of the casing.
10. In a suction cleaner, 'a casing including a barrel portion andav closure member for one end of said barrel portion, said barrel portion being vprovided with an internal recess extending lnwardly from one end of the same, a rigid supporting member in said recess, a. motor in said casing, means for supporting said motor from said supporting member, and means for secure ing said closure member to'the end of said barrel portion against the end of said supporting member'in a manner to clamp the same in said recess. f
