Thisinvention relates;tol a portable'. vacuuml cleaner in which allthevacuum cleanerelements: are. 1116013?fllatad.v Within al knapsack,. except; the nozzle and the:- flcxiblefdliot connected thereto..
This knapsack is carried on the back of. the. operator. eliminating4 the effort. new: required4 to pull or push the vafiuuniecleaner from point. to-V point, andv the often occurring: damage` tof. furni-v ture.. It further eliminates. thezneeessityor actua allyv moving furniture to: permit'.thermovement:- of; the vacuum cleanere l It is.y essential todevise such a-cleaner so-V than its weight will be a. minimumand-fk to. this; enrl'-v I have.v reduced thiseweight to.- approximatelyrseven pounds, withoutfsacriflcing its cleaning power; iut' utilizing the knapsack-sf thedust separating mee diuxn/and also .utilizing it agg-,aapneumatc support: or chassis; for the? compact. motor; driven fan; as;-` sembly.
liurthermore,` duey te the initiation er. the: dust". separating knapsack by the exhaust pressure` o! the fan therein,.1- utilize the.l pneumatic:v factor thus, created toy absorbthe.- vibration: of the high: Speed motor driven fan; unit fromv beine' transfmitted. to the Operator-S 1 body.
A- further. object.` ory my invention ist to: guard against a film of ne dust:v from being deposited-1 on the operators:v clothing; by limiting: the-i per;v meability of the dust separating' knapsackt to: those areas which .are not normally. in directeonztact with the'operator-isbodyz. v
Another object` of; my inventionfis; to:A facilitate; the manual closing. or the dust removaleeverfini the very flexible knapsacby arranging a.. rigid.A suction tube member, extending from the major mass ofthe motordriven fan unit, so that the pressure required to make such closure is resisted by this mass and itis not necessary for the operator to handle the dust separating knapsack during such procedure.
I attain these objects by the illustrative embodiment of my invention in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a drawing in perspective of my invention as it is carried by the operator while in action.
Figure 2 is an enlarged rear elevation and partly shown in section to clearly show the pneumatic suspension between the motor and the operators body. s
Figure 3 is an isometric view of the knapsack showing specically the dust removal cover in the knapsack and suction tube connection therethrough, wherein the exible tube is permanently attached to the dust removal cover to reduce the assembling. of: part-sl. Y, YAllY elfitriaal'4 SupplyV cable sie conventionally: .I eonnectedto, the-maternitne fanunit;
The lrnausackbody Ifis preferably made vliliF1 drical in form, however it may be elliptical, or oi any pleasing symmetrical design. It is to be noted that the support straps 3 areV secured to the knapsack I at a suitable angle thereon to permit it to hang, when inflated, so that only the area 2 impervious to air passage contacts the body.
The rigid suction duct I2 is secured to the fan housing 'I at I3, which is the suction opening to the fan 29, and at the other end thereof I4, duct I2 is formed in a taper so as to make a slip-fit joint with the central member I5 in the dust removal cover I6. Inasmuch as the perimeter of the cover Il must form an air tightseal with its companion member I8, which is secured to the knapsack I, as well as making a seal between members I4 and I5, I preferably insert into the dust removal cover I6 an annulus of fabric I9 so I l tionand servicethereof.l Y
Snap-lock fasteners 2I of any conventional det l signV hermetically secure'the perimeter I'I of the i i dust removal-cover to its companion sealing member I8 in the knapsack I. It should be noted that the diameter of theV dust removal cover YIIf is Y i smaller than the inated diameter of the knapsack I so that the rigidmember I 'I will not in any event contactjthe body.
' Spacers "tlrformed around the'fannmtorA hous-V ing 'I keep (the cloth'cylinder 6 away from the housing, so that air may pass through the cloth t -recess and assure an added area of permeabil-- t ity in the knapsack.
Referring to Figure i Y2 the fanV discharge air;` ports 26 exhaust directly WithirrtheV knaps'ack.AV Y Details of the motor fan unit are not shownl as L Y the entire assembly is the conventional type usedV in cannister vacuum cleaners.
Considering the main weight of thev entire cleaning device, which is the motor driven fan4 unit,` itshould be noted that cloth sections, positionedin one 'orvmorevplanes at right angles to i eachother, and'under -ination pressure are ini terposed between this mass andthe suspensionV harness as well as theY area on which the knap-1 c sackcontacts the body;` VThese -cloth sections under winflation pressure eiectively dampens Vout vibration.VV Howeventhese provisions to eliminate vibration, and support the motor weight, are inherent in the general concept of my invention withoutrany'addition to the weight ofthe device.
'I claim 1 1.'A'portab1e vacuum cleaner, adapted to -be sustained from thev operators body, comprising an'ele'ctric motor and suction-,fan assembly, supported Within the contour ofa permeable dust bag,` an exhaust duct from said fan directed into the interior of said bag,a-suction ductv entering one end of said-bag through a detachablev dust n removable coverrtherefonvand connecting to the suction oricerof said fan; yan open recess formed in the opposite Yend of lsaid permeable bag and supporting Ameans between said motor and said",
