Abstract

777,464. Valves. FOXBORO CO. April 29, 1954 [May 11, 1953], No. 12484/54. Class 135. A combined fluid - pressure - operated and manually-actuated valve, comprises a valve body 14 housing a double-beat, plug-lift valve 19 connected by a stem 12 to a flexible diaphragm 23 housed in a chamber 22 supported on the body 14 by a yoke fitting 10. The diaphragm is urged downwardly by pneumatic pressure supplied through a pipe 17 to close the valve and upwardly by a spring 30. Shoulders 46 on the stem 12 coact with bell-crank levers 44 connected together by bars 48 and pivoted on a fixed pin 39. The bars 48 engage adjustable stops 52, 53, to limit the opening and closing movements of the valve. The pin 39 also pivotally mounts a lever 38 formed at one end with a slot 40 slidably mounting a pin 41 and at its other end with a fork 38 engageable by a nut 37 which on rotation of a hand wheel 16 moves along a screwed spindle 34. On alignment of the slot 40 in the lever 37 with recesses 45 in the levers 44, the pin 41 may be moved vertically in the slot to either connect or disconnect the levers, the pin being held in either of the two positions by spring-pressed balls 42. When the levers are connected together the valve can only be operated by the hand wheel 16 and when the levers are disconnected actuation can only be effected by movement of the spring- loaded, pneumatically-operated diaphragm 23.
