Abstract
616,245. Gas-blast switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 18, 1944, No. 3035. Convention date, Feb. 26, 1943. [Class 38 (v)] A gas-blast switch, for example that of Specification 544,017, has, in addition to the main valve 15 operated by the contact-operating mechanism in both the opening and closing movements, a valve 38 adapted to restrict the gas-supply in the closing movement. The contact 12 is operated, preferably with lostmotion, as set out in Specification 548,520, by a fluid motor 18 acting through a bellcrank lever 22 which has a cam 31 operating a further valve-actuating lever 33. When the closing valve 27 of motor 18 is opened, gas passes through pipe 42 to move the valvemember 40 to the position shown, so throttling the supply admitted by valve 15, but when the opening valve 29 is opened, member 40 is moved so that the reduced part 41 admits the full supply which, owing to the lost-motion, reaches the contacts before they separate.
