Abstract

830,807. Valves. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. June 30, 1958 [July 12, 1957], No. 22174/57. Class 135. Valve actuating mechanism comprises an operating lever 7 and a second lever 5 connected to the valve spindle 1, both levers being mounted on a shaft 3, and their ends being interconnected with limited lost motion bv a bolt 10, and abutments 12, 13 on the levers which are normally held separated by a compression spring 9 engaging recesses at the ends of the levers. Valve-closing movement of lever 7 is normally transmitted through spring 9, but in the event of abnormal resistance arising compression of spring 9 allows abutments 12, 13 to engage and thus provide a direct closing force on the valve from lever 7. On opening the valve spring 9 is unstressed, abutments 12, 13 separate, and bolt 10 provides a direct connection between levers 5, 7.
