Abstract

782,270. Valves. ELECTRAULIC PRESSES, Ltd. June 3, 1955 [June 8, 1954], No. 16757/54. Class 135. A manually-actuated pressure release valve comprises a valve member 1 connected by a link 10 to a fulcrum block 11 having a pivot-pin 12 by which it is connected to a lever 15, which may be either hand or foot operated. A flexible rod 13 secured to the block 11 and slidably passing through a lug 14 on the lever 15 resiliently yields on application of load to the lever to unseat the valve against its spring 8 to exhaust liquid through an outlet'6. The rod 13 may be replaced by a coil spring or a torsion rod. The spring 8 instead of being in the valve housing may be fitted externally between the lug 14 and a fixed abutment. In the event of failure of the rod 13 or its alternatives, adjustable pins 16 carried by the lever 15 positively contact the block 11 to operate the valve. A plunger 9 formed on an extension of the valve member and subjected on both faces to inlet pressure damps movements of the valve member to prevent it chattering on its seat.
