Abstract

538,235. Valves. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and TREVASKIS, H. Feb. 22, 1940, No. 3353. [Class 135] A bellows or diaphragm actuated reducing valve has the valve member 9 slidably arranged in a bore 1a, joining the inlet and outlet connections 2, 3. The front and rear faces of the member are shaped to provide smooth curved surfaces and flats are formed on its sides to provide fluid passages. The front face is recessed to house a facing washer 28 adapted to co-operate with a knife-edge seat formed by turning a groove 30 in the end of the inlet connection. The valve is actuated by a bellows 21 housed in a chamber formed by a cylindrical casing member 4 clamped between packing rings 6 housed in grooves in the main casing and in a plate 4<SP>1</SP> supported by a cover member 5 respectively. One end of the bellows is secured to the plate 4<SP>1</SP> while the other end is fixed to a flanged member 10 slidably mounted on a boss 7 on the main casing. A spindle 11 secured to the member 10 has an upstanding part 22 slotted to receive a link 23 connected to a bell crank lever 24 itself linked to the valve member. A hollow depending part of the spindle 11 is slidably mounted on a flanged pin 14 supported by an adjusting screw 15. Loading springs 18, 19 are arranged between the member 10 and an abutment plate 17 resting on the flange of the pin 14. A spring-loaded relief valve may be fitted.
