[Also in Group XXIX] A valve for providing an output pressure in a required relation to another pressure and suitable for use in pressure-fluid braking systems for vehicles in which a higher pressure is required for the front wheels than for the back, comprises a spring-loaded plunger 6, Fig. 1, having a seat 11 for a ball valve member 10 which has a connection 15 to a spring- loaded plunger 12, at least one of the springs having a non-linear characteristic. In operation, pressure in a conduit 2, 3 has access through the open valve 10, 11 to a chamber 16 communicating with an outlet 5. The pressure in the chamber 16 causes the plunger 12 to cornpress the spring 13 and move the closure member 10 towards its seat, thus controlling the pressure in the chamber 16. Any rise of pressure in the conduit 2, 3 moves the plunger 6 against its spring 7 to re-open the valve and raise the pressure in the chamber 16. The relation between the two pressures can be varied by varying the loading springs 7, 13, or by altering the sizes of the plungers 4, 12. The plunger 12 can be used as an indicator, for example by operating an electric switch 42, 43. The conduit 2, 3 is connected to the front brakes and the outlet 5 to the rear brakes. In a modification, the controlling medium enters the valve housing at 26, Fig. 4, and the controlled pressure passes out at 40. The pressure responsive elements, instead of consisting of spring-loaded plungers, in this case comprise members 29, 34 bonded to annular rubber members 30, 35 which are themselves bonded to sleeves fixed in the valve housing. An additional and adjustable loading spring 36 is provided for the member 34. Instead of the plungers 6, 12 or the rubber parts 30, 35, diaphragms or bellows may be employed.
