Abstract
841,736. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems; valves. KOEHLER AIRCRAFT PRODUCTS CO. Feb. 13, 1958 [Feb. 18, 1957], No. 4787/58. Class 135. The casing 10 of a valve has an inlet 18, Fig. 1, an outlet 20, a seat 19 and a spider 16 to which is attached a diaphragm housing 25 between which latter members is secured a diaphragm 30 through the centre of which passes a member 31 with an orifice 32 covered by a filter and open to the inlet 18. The member 31 is threaded into an extension 41 between which and the housing 25 is a spring 51 that urges a closure 42 on to the seat 19. The fluid in the inlet 18 has access to a chamber 33 behind the diaphragm via orifice 32, which chamber is provided with a bleed port through the spider 16 and housing 25 that is controlled by a float valve, not shown, whereby the position of closure 42 is determined. Closure 42 is mounted on member 31 and includes a face 43 of resilient material, such as rubber, to which is bonded a reinforcing plate 44 of stainless steel, copper or brass; on the plate is the diaphragm 30 which is covered by a ribbed plate 50 similar to the plate 44. The diaphragm comprises a thin fluidimpervious cup-shaped membrane 60, Fig. 3, made up of either a fabric covered with an elastomer or a moulding without a fabric centre; a further membrane 65 of cotton, nylon or rayon which abuts membrane 60 and is held in place by plates 44, 50. As additional reinforcing means the membrane 65 is made up of concentric fluid impervious members 66 of rubberized cotton fabric bonded to the membrane 65, the fabric membrane 65 therefore being uncovered in the zone 70 of maximum flexure. Membrane 65 is smaller in diameter than membrane 60 so that it is drawn tighter than the former and will hence absorb all the operating forces. Such a multi-laminar diaphragm retains its strength and flexibility at low temperatures. Specification 754,470 is referred to.
