Abstract
703,831. Safety cut-off valves. McCULLACH, A. A. Dec. 10, 1952, No. 31336/52. Addition to 644,629. Class 135 An improved form of the safety cut-off valve for gas appliances described in the parent Specification comprises a closure member 3 carried by a diaphragm 6 dividing the valve casing 5 into an upper compartment and a lower compartment gas inlet and outlet connections 1, 2 to the lower compartment, a stem 7 supported by the diaphragm and carrying an armature 8 adapted to co-operate with an annular magnet 9 in the upper part of the valve casing when the valve closes, and a restricted orifice or weep hole 11 between the inlet and outlet connections. After failure of the gas pressure on the diaphragm 6, the valve is held closed by the magnet 9 which is carried by an annular member 10 screwed into the upper part of the valve casing. When the appliance or all of them have been cut off and the gas supply pressure restored, pressure leaking through the weep hole builds up under the diaphragm 6 and re-opens the valve. A filter cartridge 12 is arranged in front of the weep hole.
