A pressure deficiency cut-off valve for gas meters, has the valve 5 loaded on to its seat 2 in the inlet 1 by a spring 16 when supply pressure fails, and opened, when an outlet from chamber 6 is closed, by pressure building up via metering orifice 18 and acting on differential diaphragms 10, 71 having a vent 19 between them. The valve may be hinged and operated by a single diaphragm or piston. The orifice may be formed as a valve in the cutoff valve on its seat and interconnected with the prepayment mechanism.
