888,931. Valves. ROBERTSHAW-FULTON CONTROLS CO. June 13, 1958 [Oct. 25, 1957], No. 19017/58. Class 135. A fluid-control valve for maintaining a constant pressure drop across an orifice 40 has an inlet 18, a flow-control chamber 32 comprising a metering cup 14 with ports 20 leading to a housing chamber 44 with outlet 22, an orifice 40 between the inlet and ports, and a flexible annularly convoluted diaphragm acting as a valve for the ports and having its inner edge attached to a rigid member 36 loaded by spring 38. The diaphragm peels over the ports to maintain flow constant. In other embodiments, external actuating means are connected to member 36, a needle valve provided for varying the orifice, the ports arranged helically or as slots, and the orifice by-passes the diaphragm.
