Abstract

761,780. Impedance matching arrangements.. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 20, 1953 [Jan. 9, 1953], No. 32230/53. Class 40 (8). A " line-ground " transmission line of the type described in Specifications 704,050, 708,601 and 761,764, comprising conductors 1, 2 spaced by dielectric material 3 is coupled to a rectangular waveguide 6 by passing it through a slot 4 in the guide and coupling the conductor 1 to the wall 5 of the guide and extending the area of the other conductor 2, within the guide, as by a separate or integral conductor 7, Fig. 2. The conductor 1 and dielectric 3 may terminate at the wall 5 or part way across the guide, respectively. A stub 8 may be of such a size to provide optimum impedance matching for the operating frequency. A trap 9 may be adjusted by a plunger 10. In a modification (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), the conductor 2 is provided with a conductive post coaxially of the guide and extending in the direction of propagation, and the conductor 1 may extend across the guide to form the end plate of the guide. In a further modification (Fig. 5, not shown), the conductor 2 is provided with a circular or elliptical part in place of the conductor 7. This part may also have a conductive post. As shown in Fig. 6, the guide may have a conductor 16 fixed to its side walls, and the line may be adjusted vertically in slots 14, 15 to allow the length of the stub 19 to be adjusted for optimum impedance matching. A trap may be formed by the end wall 13.
