Abstract

733,402. Microwave filters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1953 [Oct. 21, 1952], No. 27868/53. Addition to 708,597. Class 40 (8). The " line-above-ground " filter of the parent Specification is provided with a conductive cover 4a which is spaced from the transmission line elements 4, 5 by an amount sufficiently greater than the spacing between these elements as to have a negligible effect upon the field configuration between them. This spacing may be about ten times the spacing between the ground and line conductors 4, 5. The cover may overlie the whole filter or any part of it and may be filled with a dielectric 12b. It may be connected to the ground conductor 4, Fig. 2, or may have a rim 34, Fig. 11, which forms a quarter-wave choke with the ground conductor. A lining 36 of graphite may be provided to prevent cavity resonance. Where the input of the filter is connected to a coaxial line, as in the parent Specification, the outer conductor of the coaxial line may be connected to the cover 4a. Side walls 18, 19 forming part of the cover may extend on either side of the junction between the coaxial line and the filter. Specification 704,050 also is referred to.
