Abstract
761,790. Microwave impedance networks. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Jan. 29, 1954 [Feb. 2, 1953], No. 2746/54. Class 40 (8). A microwave power-dividing junction comprises three arms of which two consist of transmission lines of the line-above-ground " type described in Specifications 704,050, 708,601 and 761,764. In the junction of Figs. 1, 2, power propagated in waveguide 4 is divided equally between arms 5, 6 of the " line-aboveground " type having a continuous common " line " conductor 2 supported on a sheet of dielectric 3. " Ground " conductors 1 are connected to the walls of the guide which is apertured at 10, 11 to receive the lines 5, 6. Matching is obtained by means of an adjustable shortcircuit 7 and a special configuration 12, 13 of the line conductor 2. In the junction of Figs. 4, 5 a part 1a of the ground conductor 1 forms a terminal wall of the waveguide 4. The line conductor is modified at 17, 18 where it passes through the guide 4 and a transformer section 19 projects along the axis of the guide. The junction of Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), is specially designed to divide power from arm 5 between arms 4 and 6. The transformer section and the modified portions of the line conductor 2 are in this case arranged asymmetrically. To obtain equal division of power regardless of which branch constitutes the source the junction of Fig. 9 is provided with a transformer section in the form of two crossed conductors 25, 26 whose ends may be connected to the walls of the guide 4 and whose centre portions are disposed in contact with the conductor 2. A probe 27 projects into the guide 4. Fig. 10 shows a method of connecting arms 5, 6 to a resonator 30 or to a waveguide or coaxial line. A coupling probe 35 connected to the line conductor 2 projects through aligned apertures in the dielectric layer 3, ground conductor 1 and resonator wall 33 into the resonator.
