Abstract
637,121. Keying carrier frequencies. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ESPLEY, D. C. July 29, 1947, No. 20423. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XL (b)] A switch for high-frequency oscillations comprises a uniform line an integral number of quarter wavelengths long connected at one end to the terminals to be switched and a conductor which can be placed so as to couple the line by a reactance - X to a second line of reactance +X, or withdrawn to give negligibly small coupling. As shown, a coaxial line 10 is connected at one end to the terminals 15, 16 to be switched. A second coaxial line 11 is arranged with its outer conductor continuous with that of line 10 and a bellows 19 is formed so that the enlarged ends of inner conductors 17, 18 may be approached or withdrawn. The line 11 may be open or short-circuited and has an equal and opposite reactance to that of the capacity between the enlarged ends of the inner conductors. One inner may be provided with a spigot co-operating with a recess in the end of the opposing inner, Fig. 4 (not shown), or a separate conductor may act as a coupling. Two switches in parallel spaced apart by a quarter wavelength may be used in each of two branch lines. The common feeder is a quarter wavelength from the nearest switch and is effectively connected to the line in which the couplings are operative. Specification 564,988 is referred to.
