Abstract

564,988. High frequency transmission. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. and ESPLEY, D. C. June 20, 1940, No. 10609. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] Relates to non-contact-making switching arrangements for high frequency electrical oscillations. The arrangement comprises a uniform transmission line with distributed inductance and capacity and zero attenuation constant. The length of the line is an integral number of quarter wave-lengths, and the inner and outer members of the line at one of its ends are connected to the switching terminals. By approaching a conductor of suitable capacity close to but not quite in contact with the other end of the line, the impedance across the switching terminals is caused to approach infinity; when the conductor is removed to a sufficient distance the impedance across the switching terminals approaches zero.
