Abstract

718,957. High frequency transmission lines. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Jan. 16, 1953 [Feb. 4, 1952], No. 1337/53. Class 40 (8) A transmission line coupler consists of a number of branch lines, each comprising two spaced, parallel conductors, one wider than the other, two of the branches being in effect a straight line with a third branch coupled perpendicularly thereto. As shown in Fig. 1, the two branches in a straight line consists of a narrow conductor 1 and a broad conductor Z supported on insulation 3. The branch at right angles consists of a broad conductor 2a joined to conductor 2, and a narrow conductor 1a capacitatively coupled to conductor 1. A shorting conductor 11, adjustable by a knob 13 may be provided so that the right angle branch can function as an adjustable stub. In another method of connecting the right angle branch both its first and second conductors are directly connected to the first and second conductors respectively of the straight through branches. The right angle branch may also consist of a middle wire conductor with a parallel narrow conductor on each side. The branch connected as shown in Fig. 1 forms an E Junction. As shown in Fig. 5, in addition to the stub 6 forming an E junction, a stub 14 may be provided at right angles to the first stub and forming an H junction.
