Abstract

708,589. Attenuators for high frequency transmission lines. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 2, 1952 [May 31, 1951], No. 11147/52. Addition to 704,050. Class 40 (8) A microwave transmission line as described in the parent Specification is provided with an attenuator consisting of a body of lossy material arranged to form part of the electromagnetic circuit of the transmission system. The body may consist of resistive material or be a dielectric and may, in the former case, consist of a section of one of the line conductors. When the line conductors 1a and 2 are formed on each side of an insulating layer 10 by printing circuit methods, the attenuator may consist of a layer 9 formed on conductor 1a. The ends of the attenuator portion may be tapered for matching purposes. In an adjustable construction the attenuator body 13 is pivoted at 14 so that it can swing between the line conductors. In another form the body of lossy material may contain a groove so that it may be straddled across the rod-like conductor of the transmission line.
