Abstract
1,107,242. Directional couplers. SAGE LABORATORIES Inc. 15 July, 1965 [22 July, 1964], No. 30098/65. Heading H1W. A hybrid coupling device (directional coupler) comprises insulated conductors 11, 13 parallel to each other over a quarter-wavelength distance at the mid-band operating frequency and enclosed within a hollow conductor 23 which carries terminal pairs A, B, C, D. An input fed to terminals A is completely and equally divided between terminals B and C. The conductors are spaced by twice the thickness of their insulation and are located by an insulating sleeve 22. The conductor 23 may be circular or square in cross-section and may carry terminals on end or side faces. In the latter case, the terminals may be opposite to each other or arranged in space-quadrature. The coupled wires may be twisted through an angle not exceeding 180 degrees.
