Abstract

1,193,199. Electric couplings. ALFRED ELECTRONICS. 30 Nov., 1967 [1 Dec., 1966], No. 54482/67. Heading H2E. [Also in Division H1] In Fig. 1, a coaxial TEM transmission line terminated in an N-type connector 11, comprises outer and inner conductors 12, 14 separated by dielectric 16 having a radial bore 18 in which is contained a compressed spring 20, e.g. of steel wire, for providing a D.C. connection between the condutors 12, 14. In Fig. 3, a similar connection is made by spring 38 between inner conductor 30 and an aluminium terminal 42, located in a bore 40 in outer conductor 32 and held there by an insulating retaining plate 44, secured by screws 46. The curved surface of the terminal 42 in contact with the bore 40 is anodized to provide D.C. insulation from the conductor 32 and an R.F. short to the wave energy propagated along the transmission line. Conductors of non-coaxial transmission lines, e.g. strip-lines, may be similarly connected.
