Abstract
680,989. Wave-guides. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 13, 1951, No. 16661/51. Class 40 (viii). A wave-guide, comprising a single conductor 3 around which high frequency waves are propagated, is connected to a coaxial line 2 by extending the inner 1 of the line beyond its open end perpendicularly to conductor 3, to which it is electrically connected at the crossover point, the extension of line 1 beyond conductor 3 being of a length equal to an odd multiple of a half wavelength of the highfrequency waves involved. Energy from line 2 will then flow in equal amounts in each direction along line 3. A stub 6, whose length is an odd multiple of one quarter of the operating wave length, may be attached to line 3 at a point distant an odd number of quarter wave lengths from the attachment of the coaxial line. This will reflect energy progressing to the right as shown in the Figure, and cause the effective feed to line 3 to be wholly in the left-hand direction.
