Abstract

627,092. High-frequency transmission lines. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. March 3, 1947, No. 6018. Convention date, March 27, 1946. [Class 40 (viii)] A high-frequency transmission line, comprising a number of conductive portions 10 and 11 defining a space for the propagation of guided electric waves, has its length determined by a short-circuited transmission line section 15 of length equal to an odd integral multiple of one-quarter of a wavelength at the operating frequency, this section including at least one conductive portion 17 adjacent to but spaced from one of the conductive members 11 of the main line and providing therewith an openended transmission line section containing a dielectric member 25 supporting the open end of the short-circuited section. Member 17 may be formed with a recess 24 to grip member 25. A similar arrangement of a dielectric support to that shown for a coaxial line may also be used in a wave-guide or for Lecher wires. The arrangement places member 25 in a region of low voltage gradient so that it can be made of relatively inexpensive materials whose high dielectric loss would normally render them unsuitable. The member 15 may be adjusted by an insulating member 27 operated by a screw 33.
