Abstract
683,273. High-frequency impedance transformers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 29, 1951 [June 1, 1950], No. 12575/51. Class 40 (viii). An impedance transformer comprises two wave-guides 1 and 2, each closed at one end by an adjustable piston 3 or 4, and directively intercoupled so that a wave entering one guide divides into travelling waves of equal amplitude in each guide. The pistons are operated by a differential screw 12 which moves them equal distances in opposite directions, and by a screw 11 which moves them equal distances in the same direction. Calculation shows that operation of screw 12 varies the amplitude of waves emitted from the transformer and screw 11 varies their phase. The ends 5 and 6 of the guides serve as inlets and outlets for the apparatus and the end 6 may be provided with a reflectionless termination 22.
