Abstract
650,337. Dielectric heating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and STAINSBY, A. G. Dec. 20, 1948, No. 32897. [Class 39(iii)] A dielectric strip 16 is passed through wave guides 10 and 10a excited by generators 13, 13a so as to cause standing waves to be set up in the two wave guides. Wave guide 10a is movable relatively to the waveguide 10 in the direction of the arrow so as to vary the phase relationship between the two with respect to the strip to provide uniform heating across the width of the strip. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3, the phase relationship between the standing waves in each arm 10, 10b, is varied by means of a dielectric block 18 to provide uniform heating across the width of the strip 17.
