754,302. Steam raising in forced flow boilers. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Sept. 20, 1954 [Sept. 26, 1953], No. 27220/54. Class 123(2). In a forced flow, once-through steam boiler comprising a feed pump 2 which supplies water from a hot well 1 through a preheater 3 to a vaporizer section 3<SP>1</SP> from which wet steam passes into a separator 4 whence saturated steam flows through a superheater 6 to an outlet pipe 7, the vaporizer section is cooled during the warming up period of the boiler by a flow of water delivered from the feed pump and returning to the hot well through a pipe 9, a valve 8 in pipe 9 being open and a valve 5 in the pipe between the separator and superheater closed. To protect the superheater which is not screened from direct flame radiation during the warming up period, it is filled with water which evaporates during this period, the steam discharging through a branch pipe 12 controlled by a valve 11. Valves 5, 8, 11 are actuated manually or automatically so that valve 5 is opened and valves 8, 11, closed when sufficient steam is being generated in section 3<SP>1</SP>.
