Abstract

737,935. Internal shoe-drum brakes. BRISSON, L. C. Jan. 23, 1953 [Jan. 25, 1952], No. 2088/53. Class 103 (1). An internal shoe-drum brake comprises foremost, intermediate and endmost shoes 1, 2 and 3 respectively, the shoe 1 having one end acted upon by an hydraulic or other type of actuator 4, the other end being pivoted at 5 to a lever 6 pivoted on the back plate. The intermediate shoe 2 has one end pivoted at 8 to the lever 6 and its other end pivoted at 9 to lever 10 which is pivoted to the back plate at 11. The endmost shoe 3 has one end pivoted at 12 to lever 10 and its other end abutting a fixed surface on the actuator 4. It is shown by a force diagram that if the points 5 and 8 on the lever 6 and 9 and 12 on the lever 10 are suitably arranged it is possible to avoid any reaction on the axis of the brake drum and to provide a symmetrical distribution of the pressures.
