Abstract
A method of blowing metal baths wherein the oxidizing gas is blown on to the surface of the bath from above comprises forming a number of separate zones on the surface of the bath by the impingement on the surface of several jets of gas. The gas may issue from a number of single nozzles or a group of nozzles to impinge with sufficient energy to remove the slag and iron oxide layer but not to penetrate into or depress the bath. Atomized liquid oxygen may be used as the oxidizing gas. The invention may also be applied to the removal of sulphur from molten copper.
