Abstract

Lime or hydrated lime in the form of a dust or powder is blown into or on to the surface of a molten steel bath by means of an oxidizing gas blown through a lance. All the lime may be supplied through the lance or two parts thereof may be blown in and one part added in lump form. The gas used may be oxygen or carbon dioxide and it may also carry iron oxides or slag forming materials.
