Abstract

728,879. Hatch covers and cargo fittings. MACGREGOR, R., and MACGREGOR, J. Dec. 8, 1953 [Aug. 12, 1953], No. 22188/53. Class 113 (1). In a vessel having a weather deck 6 and a 'tween deck 4 wherein the weather deck hatchway is spanned by portable beams 11 disposed under its hatch covers 9 (arranged for vertical stowage at 9a, e.g. as described in Specification 649,384), the 'tween deck hatchway is provided with a cover at one or each end comprising an inner and an outer section hinged together at 14, the outer section 13 being hinged to the 'tween deck at 15, and the inner section 12 being capable of being swung up and held in a position at right angles to the outer section (as shown to the left in Fig. 1) thus dividing the 'tween deck hold above its hatchway into a feeder for the main hold 2 and a separate feeder for the 'tween deck hold 5, or, alternatively, the inner section 12 can be folded over on top of the outer for vertical stowage within the weather deck hatchway coaming 8 as shown dotted to the right in Fig. 1, said coaming being wider and longer than the 'tween deck hatchway for this purpose. Portable channelled posts 18, 18a, 19, 20, 20a are provided to support detachable anti-shift boards 21 (which may be constructed as described in Specification 722,546). The vertical side spaces spanning the upstanding sections 12 are shut off by drop-down flaps hinged underneath the weather deck.
