Abstract

775,672. Awning for hatches. HOOD, A. June 8, 1955 [May 5, 1954], No. 13035/54. Class 113. [Also in Group X] A tent 10 having a roof completely masking the hatch opening 11 of a ship and an end open or adapted to be opened and disposed outside the vertically projected area of the hatch opening, has a slot 22 extending longitudinally from at or adjacent the centre of the roof into the open or openable end whereby a fall or runner 25 from a derrick 15 can be moved along the slot to enable loading or unloading operations to continue during weather detrimental to the cargo. The tent is supported by a fall or runner 17 from the derrick 15, has wire or otherwise reinforced edges 18, and is held in position by guy ropes 19 fixed to the deck 14. The slot is defined by a pair of spaced side-by-side members 21, and is closed with at least one rubber or other flexible flap 23.
