Abstract

879,751. Hatch covers. GOTAVERKEN A.B. Dec. 30, 1959 [Dec. 31, 1958], No. 44331/59. Class 113. [Also in Group XXV] The cover sections 5, 6, 7, 8 of a ship's hatchway are opened by actuating means 15, working directly on the hinges 16, through 180 degrees to lie flat on the deck when opened. Sealing means 9 and 11 are provided along the coaming and centre line edges of the sections. During opening the hinges 16 provide an initial simultaneous movement upwards from the coaming and away from the centre-line, (see Group XXV) to prevent the seals 9 and 11 being damaged. The cover sections are closed box-shaped units with internal reinforcements having smooth top and bottom surfaces. The actuating means 15 may be hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical or electrical.
