Abstract
973,772. Hatch covers. INTERNATIONAL MACGREGOR ORGANIZATION. June 7, 1961 [Sept. 30, 1960], No. 20613/61. Headings B7L and B7S. A hatch cover comprises a plurality of boxsectioned sections open at their bottoms which may be stowed one within the other. Each section comprises at least one beam 9, disposed at one end and inclined downwardly and outwardly, joined to a plate 13 which constitutes the roof of the section. The beam 9 is stiffened by flat irons 10, 11, 12 and the roof 13 is stiffened by members 17, 18 and 20. A beam 16, at right-angles to the plate 13 is disposed at the end of the section opposite to the beam 9 and the sides of the section are closed by plates inclined downwardly and outwardly. The plate 13 extends beyond the beam 16 at 14 so as to abut the roof of an adjacent section in the closed position. Sealing is disposed around the periphery of each section, e.g. as shown at 26, 27 and 28. In the embodiment described the sections are moved on rollers along the hatch coaming to be tipped up and stowed at one end. The inclined beam may be provided at both ends of the section.
