Abstract
876,177. Railway wagon covers. INTERNATIONAL MACGREGOR ORGANIZATION. Dec. 24, 1957 [Jan. 7, 1957], No. 40128/57. Class 103(4). [Also in Groups XXV and XXXIII] Hatchway covering panels 3, 4 are stowed to one side or spread over the opening by being pushed or pulled into position by a separate, self propelled panel 13 which rolls or slides along the edges of the hatchway. The panels 3, 4 are arranged in two groups at opposite ends of the opening and are each provided with bearing rollers 5 and tilting rollers 6 which, when the panels are moved towards their stowed position, co-operate with a cam face 8 and a ramp 7 respectively to stack the panels in a tilted position. The panels of each set are joined by cables or chains 10. The self propelled panel 13 has two pairs of bearing rollers 14, 15 and carries an electric or other motor 16 which drives, through gears and shafts, the horizontally disposed pinions 30 which mesh with racks 11 secured to the hatch coaming. The arrangement of horizontal pinion and complementary rack permits the panels to be raised to a small degree to open the sealing joints before stowing the panels. To open the hatchway the panel 13 pushes against the nearest panel of each group in turn; to close it the panel 13 is coupled to the nearest panel to pull the group across the hatchway. Two self propelled panels may be provided, one for each set of panels 3, 4. Specification 860,077 is referred to.
