Abstract

803,706. Covers for gram containers &c. MEGE, P. A. Dec. 15, 1955 [May 21, 1955], No. 36024/55. Class 20(1) [Also in Group XXXII] A cover for use in installations such as railway trucks, grain containers, &c., comprises two sections each consisting of a pair of panel elements 4, 4<SP>1</SP> or 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, Figs 1 and 2, hinged together, the inner element, e.g. element 4, being provided with a projection 10 which is hinged at 8 to the end of the truck and carries a pivoted nut 12 engaged by a screwed rod 13 provided with a handle 14.. On turning the handle the panels may be spread along the top of the vehicle, or may be folded up in a vertical position at one end of the vehicle. The panel 4<SP>1</SP> is provided with a cranked arm 19 carrying two rollers 20, 21 adapted to move along a runway 3 on the upper edge of the truck. The roller 21 is supported by a ramp 22 when the panel 4<SP>1</SP> reaches its vertical open position. When the truck cover is drawn over the truck the cranked arms 19, 29 at the ends of the inner panels are not in line and cross each other. One of the adjacent panel elements may be provided with a channel member containing yieldable material engaged by a vertical member carried by the other adjacent panel element to form a sealing joint between the cover section 4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>. The truck has a lateral wall with an aperture 2 adapted to be closed by a door 25 mounted on hinge pins 26, 26<SP>1</SP> and locked by a transverse bar 27. The door is provided with a portion of the runway 3. In a modification Fig. 5 the screwed rod 13 is located centrally of the end wall 38 of the truck and is operated through bevel gearing by a handle 44 at either end of the wall.
