Abstract

291,829. Cole, R. Feb. 7, 1927. Opening tops for vehicles comprise a number of relatively slidable sections each section of which slides in a separate guide in the side longitudinal rails. As shown, sections 5 are slidable over a fixed portion 5a of the roof and the side rails 1 are provided on their outer face with grooves 2 in which the edges 6 of the sections may slide. These grooves 2 may be lined with metal strips 3, Fig. 6, and rubber or felt strips 4. The side rails may however be provided with grooves of L-shaped section. The ends of the sections may be provided with buffer stops 23 adapted when the sections are extended to contact with abutments 27 which may be provided on hinged members 25; the abutments may be fixed however. The sections may be withdrawn either to the front or to the rear or even be accommodated when necessary on extension rails provided on a frame at the rear, the extension rails with the sections being if desired adapted to be stowed away.
