Abstract
853,752. Hatch covers. CONSULMAR S. L. Nov. 28, 1958 [Sept. 25, 1958], No. 38482/58. Class 113. In a ship's hatch cover of the type comprising a plurality of cover sections 2 which can be tipped up and stowed ; the joint between the cover section and coaming flanges 2<SP>1</SP>, 1<SP>1</SP> on the longitudinal dimensions of the hatch is sealed by a cover joint 3 comprising a metal housing packed with rubber which is pivoted at 4 to the side of the coaming. In the sealing position the cover joint 3 is pulled into position by wing nut 3<SP>1</SP> and clamped by the screws 9 which also serve to prevent any movement of the cover sections. The transverse joints formed by abutting cover sections and coaming flanges are closed by seals 10, 11, 12 and the upper plate of each section 2 is extended at 15 to provide a closure between adjacent cover sections. Each section 2 is adapted to be moved along the coaming and stowed on the rails 8 by means of the rollers 5 and 6 and a snatch block 19 connected by means of eyes to the centre sections 2. The clearance between the hatch cover sections 2 is kept constant by means of distance pieces 13 and chains 14 which also help to stow the hatch cover sections.
