Abstract
854,082. Hatch covers. CONSULMAR S.A. June 8, 1959 [Jan. 23, 1959], No. 19477/59. Class 113. In a hatch cover, of the type comprising a plurality of cover sections adapted to be opened forward or aft and to be supported on the coaming by wheels, sealing is provided by a resilient strip which surrounds the hatchway and is located in the angle formed by the cover section sides and the coaming. The strip 10 is contained in channel section members which are retained in sealing engagement along the longitudinal edges by the hook and screw arrangement 11 and 12 and along the transverse edges by tie screw and pivot arrangement 24, 25 and 26. The transverse intersections of the cover sections are sealed by interlocking resilient strips 13 and 14 which are compressed into sealing engagement, when the covers sections are closed, by the follower 15 running on the cam surface 16. The wheels 8 are adapted to run along a track 9 and support the cover sections so that the sides of the sections project below the top of the track 9 to prevent the ingress of water. The covers sections are prevented from opening accidentally by pawls, located at the sides of the sections and rubber shock absorbers. The sealing strips 10, 13 and 14 may be replaced by inflatable tubes.
