Abstract

375,120. Hatch covers. LAING & SONS, Ltd., SIR J., Deptford Yard, and ASHBY, E. W., 63, Mount Road West, bothin underland. Aug. 8, 1931, No. 22469. [Class 113 (i).] A metal hatch cover comprises one or more parts, the sections being provided with flanged ends 7, 9 for stiffening purposes, as well as external spaced stiffeners 2 with transverse members 3 notched therein. The hatch sections in their travel on and off the hatchway run on rollers 10 mounted either on the deck or on the hatch coaming. Where a pair of sections abutting in the centre of the hatch are employed, the adjacent flanged ends may be attached by through bolts 18, Fig. 3, which compress packing 24 contained in channels 4. 'This packing is continued round the coaming where similar bolts are used to secure the .sections in position. The rollers 10 may be mounted on eccentric axles so that they can be raised into contact with the hatch sections when the latter are to be moved.
