Abstract

466,019. Hatches. BURGESS, A. F. (MÛge, P. A.) Nov. 14, 1935, No. 31548. [Class 113 (i)] Metal hatch sections reinforced externally by longitudinal channel bars 3 and internally by transverse channel bars are hinged together centrally at 4 one section being also hinged at 11 to the hatch coaming. When the sections are raised by the tackle 12 the wheels 13 on the free end of the section traverse the runway 13<a> ori the exterior of the coaming. The abutting edges of the sections are packed by strips 6 held in position by the channel-bar 5 which is secured by nuts 10 on swivelling eye bolts q. Packing-material may also be inserted between the vertical faces of the channels 7 and the joint in the neighbourhood of the hinge 11 may be similarly packed. In a modified form of hinge, rear wheels 26 and cam tracks 28 are provided which in association with the hinge-bars 24 and the slotted members 29 cause the wheels 26 during the hinging motion to travel over the cam tracks. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 22864/01, [Class 113], 348,017, 370,653, and 409,231.
