Abstract

463,404. Hatches. WILLIAMSON, D., and MACGREGOR, J. July 29, 1935, No. 21448. [Class 113 (i)] In ships' hatches a hatch section is constructed to make an external metal-to-metal joint and an internal resilient packing joint with an adjacent section or the hatch coaming, clamping means being provided for compressing the surfaces together. In Fig. 1, the hatch sections A, B are provided with metal strips 9, 10 along their abutting surfaces and the packing strip 11 carried by the section B is pressed against the angle section carried by the section A. The sections are clamped by a draw bolt 16 and wedge 17. As shown in Fig. 2, the side plate 7 of section 13 makes a metal-to-metal joint with the angle section 18 carried by the coaming, whilst the interior parking strip 21 bears on the edge of the coaming 19. The screw clamp 23 is operated by a tommy-bar inserted in the hole 26.
