Abstract

490,425. Hatches. GUTHRIE, C. G. Feb. 12, 1937, No. 4171. Addition to 448,822. [Class 113 (i)] A hatchway has metal hatch-cover sections each tapering alternately and finally secured in position by a wedge locking section. This is capable of slight vertical adjustment, the locking pin 28 on one section entering enlarged holes in the next section and also in the hatch beams. The locking bolt held by a padlock similarly enters an enlarged hole in the cover end. The cover sections are stiffened by corrugations 36 and also by webs 36a. Handles 41 are housed in the corrugations and raised for use when desired. The lugs on the coaming for holding down the cover ends are formed by wedge-shaped heads 50 of screws 48. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 448,822.
