Abstract

1,183,896. Apparatus for cutting and joining floating hulls. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K.K. 13 Feb., 1968 [10 April, 1967], No. 6948/68. Heading B7S. A watertight seal assembly 7 on the exterior surface of a floating structure A comprises a plurality of longitudinally extending wall members 8 having a U-shaped transverse section, bolts 17 for securing adjacent wall members together at their abutting ends, a first sealing member 14 at each joint between adjacent wall members and combining with bolts 17 to secure the wall members together, and second sealing members 12, 18 located along the longitudinally extending edges of the wall members. Shackles 20 attached to the wall members secure the assembly through cables 25 to the surface of the floating structure along the longitudinally extending edges of the wall members to form a watertight compartment. The assembly permits either the cutting of a floating structure into two separate sections or the joining together of two separate sections of the structure. In the embodiment described the wall members are of sheet metal.
